Braeside Guest House Swellendam

Although we have tried to retain the traditional character of the house, you will findĀ all the luxuries associated with a 4-star establishment. Every effort is made to ensure that you have a comfortable stay at our lovely home.

Historic Accomodation in Swellendam

The main accommodation was built in 1901, originally consisted of a large patio, entrance, lounge, dining room and 2 rooms. This house is of typical Cape Edwardian style, with high ceilings, original antique windows sash and original Oregon pine wood floors. There are still the originalĀ  fire places in some of the rooms. Later an additional 3 rooms where added to the building. The Guest house sits on a hill overlooking the Langeberg mountains with a beautiful large garden.

A place to relax with fireplace for the cold Swellendam winters

Tastefully furnished with books available for guest to read. With rocking chairs and a Grandfather clock to keep you company, you will not want to leave. For the guests enjoyment there is a gramophone player with numerous collections to choose from. A splendid original fireplace is the centre feature of the room with beautiful Oregon floors throughout the original Guest House.

Dinning Room

The dining room seat 10 people and is furnished with antique dark oak antiques. It has a beautiful original fireplace and Oregon floors throughout.

A 24-hour coffee station is available for guests together with freshly baked products daily.

Patio & Veranda

The house has a beautiful patio with views of the garden and mountains. An ideal place to relax and view the sunset over the Langeberg Mountains with a glass of wine. On summer days breakfast will be served on the Patio. With ample sofas and chairs, the area can be enjoyed by all the guests.

Games Room

The property boasts a beautiful games rooms for those days that one does not wish to venture outside. The room shows the original stonework used to build the house in 1901 and has a adjoining shop, selling all locally produced handcrafted products, as well as a wine cellar.


Throughout the large garden we can find an interesting variety of indigenous and tropical, flowers, plants and trees. Many friendly birds gather and live free range in the garden. Very nice ponds and fountain feature sits in the middle of the garden . Pure breed amusing and friendly hens and guinea fowls are regular visitors to the garden.

Relax under one of the magnificent trees planted when the house was build to wind down after a stressful day exploring the area.


A swimming pool with loungers, chairs and tables, towels, are provided for use by guests.


Depending upon the weather conditions, we can serve the breakfast inside in the cosy dining room or outside on the patio over viewing the garden and ponds. Our breakfast consists of a continental buffet composed of cereals, yogurt, fresh fruits, various local cheeses, cold meats, fruit juices. We also pride ourselves in serving several homemade products such as: freshly baked breads, cake, sweet and savory muffins, jams and marmalade. The cooked part of our breakfast will be made on request. It will consist of our fresh free range eggs either fried, scrambled, poached, or boiled; we can also provide very nice omelettes with several seasonings, bacon, mushrooms, sausage and grilled cherry tomatoes .

We support our local industries and source as much as possible of our ingredients from local farmers.
